Pictures from Carronade

The Falkirk Show - Carronade - was held today, 11th May.

I've now had some time to add more pics and some commentary.

Took 300 pictures and only a 100 worth keeping - my mojo not with me clearly. The light was quite strange today, very thin.

As usual I've done my best with game names and sponsors - but if you spot any errors and omissions please let me know and I'll update.

Thanks due to the Falkirk team for organising another good show.

Onto the games! The pics and comments below are not a comprehensive overview of the entire show - only having bad pics of a game means I don't include it. Mea culpa! Slightly less than perfect pics are included in the FlickR gallery linked to at the end of this report though.

GDWS came with a nice large medieval battle - Muret.

GDWS - Muret (6)

I think my personal favourite game of the day was brought by the Iron Brigade. An officer with a map. Terrifying!

Iron Brigade - The Great War (3)

Interesting use of a wine glass here.

The only 54mm game of the day was by Durham, who used Maurice to recreate Whitemarsh

Clearly suckers for punishment, Gourock brought not one but two games. Freeman's Farm and Brandywine. Much inter-table communication not in keeping with the period when prompted by triumph and disaster. :)

Kirriemuir always try hard. This year it is a participation game recreating the Charge of the Light Brigade.

The Angus club brought a nice Wild West participation game.

Angus - Wild West (2)

Games Hub of Edinburgh brought a SF skirmish game. Warmachine I've been told.

Games Hub - SF

The Border Reivers chose a rare period for wargames - post-war Africa - with a game called Wild Geese. The scale plane was impressive, and heavy!

Critical Mass came with a nice bright SF game.

Fantasy and SF games have to go big, bright or go home. DWARF certainly achieved this with their 40K game.

RAF Leuchars came with a very distinctive participation game based on suicide attacks on a US carrier.

RAF Leuchars - Divine Wind (4)

This has to be the largest GMs screen I've ever seen!

Dumbarton meanwhile were responsible for some hot dyke on dyke action!

My choice as the game with the best detailing went to 'Donnybrook' by Hilton and Harrison. A few of those details in the pics below.

Harrison and Hilton - Donnybrook (2)

G3 of Glasgow had really gone to town with their layout. One of several games today incorporating LEDs.

G3 - Future Races (6)

The most subtly crafted table of the day was Nachod by SESWC. Alas, those subtleties not really brought out in the pics.

AVCBW has a strong presence in North Britain, and at Carronade we had an imagined Battle of Elgin

The Bathgate club brought their participation game based on 50's schlock-horror - THEM!

Finally of course, we mustn't miss out the game brought by the hosts of Wappinshaw - the Glasgow Phoenix club. This was Chalons.
